This Privacy Policy is a starting draft. Before relying on it, have qualified counsel review it against your specific operations, including your data flows, vendor contracts, and the jurisdictions where your users live.
BlackEvents.us (“BlackEvents,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website at www.blackevents.us (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you visit the Site, submit an event, sign up as a vendor or organizer, subscribe to our newsletter, or create an account.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account information. Email address used to sign in (magic-link authentication), and optional profile details you choose to provide such as full name, display name, preferred city, organization, and newsletter preferences.
- Event submissions. Event details you submit (title, description, dates, venue, links, images), the URL you share via the “tip” form, and contact information you provide for follow-up.
- Vendor and organizer signups. Business name, contact email, service category, locations served, and project budget ranges.
- Newsletter subscriptions. Email address and the source of the signup.
- Communications. Messages you send us via contact, email, or other channels.
Information collected automatically
- Device and usage data. IP address, browser type, operating system, referring/exit pages, pages viewed, and time spent — collected through cookies, pixels, and similar technologies.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4, PostHog, and Vercel Analytics to understand how the Site is used.
- Advertising. Google AdSense (and its ad partners) may use cookies to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads where permitted.

2. How we use information
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Site and its features.
- Authenticate users and manage accounts and profiles.
- Review, publish, and moderate event listings and vendor profiles.
- Send transactional emails (login links, submission confirmations, vendor matches) and, where you have opted in, our newsletter.
- Respond to inquiries and provide customer support.
- Measure usage, debug, and improve performance and content.
- Serve and measure advertising consistent with applicable law.
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
3. How we share information
We share information only as described below:
- Service providers. Supabase (hosting, database, authentication), Vercel (hosting and analytics), Google (Analytics and AdSense), PostHog (product analytics), SerpAPI (search), Anthropic and OpenAI (AI processing of public event information). These providers process information on our behalf under their own terms.
- Public listings. When you submit an event or a vendor/organizer profile, the information you mark as public is published on the Site and may be indexed by search engines and shared on social channels.
- Advertising partners. Google AdSense and its partners may receive limited information (such as cookies and device identifiers) to serve ads. This may constitute a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under certain U.S. state laws. See Section 8 for your opt-out rights.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect our rights and users, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
- With your consent. For any other purpose disclosed to you at the time of collection.
We do not sell your personal information for money.
4. Retention
We keep information for as long as needed to provide the Site, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You can request deletion of your account or specific information by emailing us (see Section 11).
5. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information. No internet transmission or storage is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
7. International users
The Site is operated from the United States. If you access the Site from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights with respect to your personal information:
- Access, correct, or delete information we hold about you.
- Opt out of marketing emails using the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Opt out of certain cookies — see our Cookie Notice.
- U.S. state residents (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, and others as enacted): opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, request access or deletion, and appeal denials. To exercise these rights, submit a request via our contact page with the subject line “Privacy Request.”
- EU/UK residents: we will respond to GDPR/UK-GDPR rights requests (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection) where applicable.
We do not discriminate against users who exercise these rights. We may need to verify your identity before responding to a request.
9. Do Not Track
Our Site does not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals. You can manage tracking through the cookie controls described in our Cookie Notice.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with an updated “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
