Black Brunch in Pittsburgh: The Spots to Know (2026)

Where to find Black-owned brunch in Pittsburgh — soul food, chicken and waffles, mimosa towers, and DJs, from the Northside to Homewood.

By Kendra Wells, Midwest Correspondent

Pittsburgh's Black brunch scene isn't clustered in one strip. It's spread across the map — the Northside, Lawrenceville, the Cultural District, Homewood. Some spots lean soul food and cocktails. Others turn Sunday into a party with DJs and mimosa towers. Here are the Black-owned rooms worth planning a weekend around.

Carmi Soul Food — Allegheny West

Carmi has been serving soul in the Northside for over a decade, run by owners Carleen and Mike. Saturday is their Live Brunch — cocktails and local entertainment alongside the award-winning fried chicken and six-cheese mac. Come hungry.

Walter's Southern Kitchen — Lawrenceville

Walter's brought Texas-style dry-rub barbecue to Butler Street by way of Brooklyn. On weekends the kitchen runs a Southern brunch — chicken and waffles, French toast, mimosas, bottomless coffee. Family-friendly, dog-friendly, and open late on Saturdays.

Hysyde Lounge — Marshall-Shadeland

Black-owned and woman co-owned, Hysyde on California Avenue has built its name on Sunday brunch. Think well-seasoned chicken and waffles, seafood and grits, and the mimosa tower that shows up at every other table. DJs and 90s R&B keep the room moving.

The Warren Bar and Burrow — Downtown

Tucked into the Cultural District next to the Benedum, The Warren pairs a 200-bottle wine shop with made-to-order sushi and a full brunch. Weekend brunch runs Saturday and Sunday from 11, and they host drag brunches too. A dressed-up option downtown.

Everyday Café — Homewood

A "café with a cause" on North Homewood Avenue, this Black-owned coffee shop does fresh, handcrafted food in a warm neighborhood room. Brunch here is a periodic Saturday event rather than a weekly fixture — worth checking their schedule before you go.

Brunch in Pittsburgh rewards the willing driver. These rooms are scattered, but each one is worth the trip, and the vibe shifts from quiet coffee shop to full-on day party depending on where you land. Call ahead when you can — hours and brunch days move around.
