Black Brunch in Phoenix: The Spots to Know (2026)

Seven Black-owned brunch spots across the Valley — from Roosevelt Row to Laveen, Arcadia to North Scottsdale.

By The BlackEvents.us Team, Editorial

Phoenix brunch runs on soul food, Southern comfort, and a DJ when the weekend hits. The Black-owned scene here is spread across the Valley — downtown and Roosevelt Row, up Central through Midtown, out to Arcadia, Laveen, and North Scottsdale. Some spots are quiet neighborhood kitchens. Others turn Saturday into a day party. Here's who to know.

Breakfast Bitch — Roosevelt Row

Black-owned and woman-owned, right in the Roosevelt Arts District downtown. The kitchen does chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, chilaquiles, and a Mardi Gras scramble, all made to order. Weekends run 8am to 4pm, so there's room to linger.

Lo-Lo's Chicken & Waffles — Downtown Phoenix

The Valley institution. Larry "Lo-Lo" White built it on his grandmother's soul food legacy, and it's grown into a small empire across three states. The original sits on South Central Ave. Fried chicken, fluffy waffles, and soul food that's been getting it right for about 25 years.

LATHA — Downtown Phoenix

Founder Evelia Davis opened LATHA in 2023 as a Pan-African restaurant and bar on Adams Street. Sunday Brunch pulls flavors from Africa, the Caribbean, Brazil, and the American South, with a DJ spinning R&B, Afrobeats, and hip-hop. The bar leans on wine and spirits from Black artisans.

CC's on Central — Midtown Phoenix

Mother-and-son team Sharon and Devan Cunningham bring Louisiana and Mississippi roots to Central Ave. Call it Southern, Creole, or soul food — the shrimp and grits and breakfast burrito make the label beside the point. First Sunday of the month is Soul Food Sunday, when Sharon takes the kitchen with a menu that changes each time.

Brunch & Sip — Arcadia

Larry and Rasheedah White's family-owned spot on Indian School Road pairs brunch staples with real coffee, tea, and creative cocktails. Warm room, attentive service, and thousands of five-star reviews to back it up.

Brunch House — Laveen

This is the day-party one. Black-owned on West Southern Ave, with dancing, hookah, and mimosa flights on Saturdays and Sundays. Shrimp and grits, red velvet waffles, sweet and savory Southern plates. Weekends get busy — call ahead.

SugarJam The Southern Kitchen — North Scottsdale

Dana Dumas started SugarJam as an at-home bakery in 2011; now it's a bakery, bar, and gift shop under one roof on North Hayden Road. Black-owned and woman-owned, and named to Ebony's list of favorite Black-owned restaurants. Friday through Sunday means "Brunch N' Vibes" with a resident DJ.

Phoenix brunch rewards a little planning — reservations on weekends, and a heads-up that the day-party spots fill fast. Whether you want a quiet plate of grits or a DJ and a mimosa flight, the Valley has it.
