Black Brunch & Day Parties in New Orleans (2026)

A handful of Black-owned restaurants anchor brunch year-round — then Essence weekend brings a wave of day parties.

By Ayana Baldwin, Gulf & South Correspondent

New Orleans' Black brunch scene splits in two. A few Black-owned restaurants — Morrow's on St Claude, Vyoone's in the Warehouse District, the gospel brunch at House of Blues in the French Quarter — carry it all year long. Then Essence Festival weekend hits, and the city fills up with day parties. Most of those are once-a-year events, not weekly spots. Here's how to tell them apart.

Morrow's — St Claude / Marigny

Black-owned by Larry and Lenora Morrow, Morrow's is a Creole-soul restaurant at 2438 St Claude Ave. Its signature Sunday brunch runs year-round, so it's a reliable anchor any weekend you're in town.

Vyoone's — Warehouse District

Vyoone's is a Black woman-owned French-Creole restaurant at 412 Girod St. The well-regarded Sunday brunch is a year-round fixture in the Warehouse District.

House of Blues New Orleans — French Quarter

At 225 Decatur St, House of Blues runs a long-standing Sunday gospel brunch featuring local talent alongside an all-you-can-eat Southern buffet. Seating is at 10am, and it's on the calendar year-round.

Glambitious All White Brunch — Warehouse District (Essence weekend)

Held at Tableau, 616 S Peter St, this is an upscale all-white brunch built for Black women professionals. Expect networking, speakers, and a NOLA menu. It's an Essence-weekend event, not a regular fixture.

Brown Sugar — Warehouse District (Essence weekend)

An R&B day party at Republic NOLA, 828 S Peters St, thrown by BestFriendz, Kenny Johnson, and Torrence Lifestyles. This one lands during Essence weekend.

Afro Essence — Warehouse District (Essence weekend)

A daytime Afrobeats and Caribbean music party at Paradigm Gardens, 1131 S Rampart St. Part of the Essence-weekend surge.

The Greek Day Party — New Orleans (Essence weekend)

A Divine Nine / Black Greek-letter day party at Bryant Park NOLA. Another Essence-weekend event.

Sunday Funday w/ Mannie Fresh — venue TBA (Essence weekend)

A Sunday day party hosted by NOLA hip-hop legend Mannie Fresh. Venue is still to be announced; it runs during Essence weekend.

The Ultimate Festival Day Party (D-Nice & T-Boz) — Central City (Essence weekend)

A Larry Morrow-produced celebrity day party at Treehouse, 1840 Thalia St, featuring D-Nice and T-Boz. An Essence-weekend event.

Afrobeat NOLA — Marigny (Frenchmen St)

A recurring Afrobeats and Caribbean party at Blue Nile, 532 Frenchmen St, that draws the diaspora community. Unlike the Essence-weekend day parties, this one comes back around, so check its schedule.

So: if you're in New Orleans on an ordinary weekend, aim for the sit-down anchors — Morrow's, Vyoone's, or the House of Blues gospel brunch. If you're here for Essence Festival, the day parties are where the energy goes.
