Black Brunch in Memphis: 10 Spots & Day Parties to Know (2026)

Ten Black-owned brunch spots across Memphis — Cooper-Young, Downtown, Whitehaven and the riverfront — from sweet potato waffles to mimosa towers.

By Ayana Baldwin, Gulf & South Correspondent

Memphis does brunch its own way. The scene stretches from the patios of Cooper-Young to South Main downtown, out to Whitehaven, and onto the river at Mud Island. These ten spots are all Black-owned. Come hungry.

Mahogany Memphis — Chickasaw Oaks Village

Carlee McCullough and Veve Yates run this upscale Southern kitchen with a Creole lean, tucked into the shops at Chickasaw Oaks Village off Poplar. Weekend brunch brings lamb and grits, seafood omelettes and champagne. It opened in 2018 and built a loyal following fast.

Mahogany River Terrace — Mud Island

The Mahogany team's second act is Memphis' only riverfront restaurant, on historic Mud Island. Same ownership, same soul-forward cooking, with a view of the water. It opened in October and is the newest room in the family.

Sage — Downtown

At 94 S. Main, Sage serves fusion soul food in a sleek downtown room. Saturday and Sunday brunch runs until mid-afternoon, with Sage beignets and inventive plates. It's a longtime favorite of Memphis Black Restaurant Week.

One11 Madison — Downtown

A three-level dining and live-music venue at 111 Madison Ave. Brunch lands Saturday and Sunday, with bottomless mimosas on the second Sunday and a signature mimosa tower. It's brunch as a day party.

Ashtar Garden — Cooper-Young

Owner Edwin Dorsey calls it "where southern brunch and fantastic vibes are met," and the Cooper-Young space delivers, with covered and open patio seating. Brunch runs Saturday and Sunday, 12 to 6. Sweet potato waffles, shrimp and grits, French toast, chicken and waffles.

Kitchen Laurel — Cooper-Young

Chef Kevin Sullivan's breakfast-and-brunch room at 800 S. Cooper. The tagline says it plainly: "where breakfast and brunch meet family and fun." Expect big breakfast plates and a warm, welcoming counter.

The Garden Brunch Cafe — Downtown

At 492 S. Main, "Mama Jenn" runs a brunch cafe built on fresh, homey cooking. The menu leans classic: pancakes, French toast, eggs Benedict, salmon croquettes and homemade grits.

Biscuits & Jams — Downtown & Bartlett

Chef Monique Williams named it for the idea that you can jam to music while you eat biscuits and jam. Two locations — 24 N. B.B. King Blvd downtown and 5806 Stage Road in Bartlett — plus a jazz speakeasy, The Juke, beneath the downtown room. Tables go fast; reservations help.

Memphis Toast — North Memphis

Co-owners Billy Irby and Roosevelt Bonds opened this toast-forward brunch spot in North Memphis, with themed rooms nodding to B.B. King, Elvis and Smokey City. French toast, eggs Benedict and a few health-conscious plates.

Eggxactly Breakfast & Deli — Whitehaven

Wendell and Adrena Jackson's spot at 1248 Marlin Road brings Memphis flavor to the first meal of the day. Look for the Beale Street platter with bourbon French toast, and catfish with gouda grits.

Brunch in Memphis rewards a little planning — several of these take reservations, and the popular ones fill up on weekends. Spread your visits across the city and you'll taste the range, from Cooper-Young patios to the riverfront.
