By Ayana Baldwin, Gulf & South Correspondent
Houston's Black brunch scene runs from Midtown's breakfast institutions to Third Ward's heritage lounges, with sit-down Southern kitchens in the Museum District and day parties Downtown and in EaDo. This isn't a ranked "best" list — it's a guide to spots and recurring series worth knowing. Here are 10 to start with.
The Breakfast Klub — Midtown
Marcus Davis's legendary Black-owned Midtown breakfast and brunch spot at 3711 Travis St. The menu is built around Houston staples like wings & waffles and katfish & grits.
Lucille's — Museum District
Black-owned by Chris Williams, a descendant of Lucille B. Smith, at 5512 La Branch St. Expect Southern-heritage brunch with a DJ and mimosas.
Peachez HTX — Third Ward
Black-owned upscale Southern brunch from Chef Carlitta Peachez Whitley at 2533 Southmore Blvd. Look for dishes like lobster and grits.
Kulture — Downtown
Chef Marcus Davis's Downtown restaurant at 701 Avenida de las Americas, exploring African diaspora cuisine. Sunday brunch runs 11:30am–3pm.
Rado MKT — Third Ward
A Black-owned Third Ward brunch hub at 2736 Virginia St, open Friday through Sunday, 11am–3pm. It's a cultural anchor in the heritage neighborhood.
Grooves of Houston — Midtown
Black-owned all-you-can-eat brunch buffet at 2300 Pierce St, with red velvet waffles and catfish. The "Sing Along Sunday" runs with MC Keezy Twohundo and DJ Devo.
Chapman & Kirby — EaDo
Upscale 25+ Sunday brunch and day party ("Chapman Sundays") at 2118 Lamar St in EaDo. Rotating DJs and a soul kitchen menu.
Mo' Brunch and Brews — Third Ward
Black-owned vegan brunch in Third Ward, with community-oriented Sunday programming.
Stuff'd Wings — Midtown
Black-owned and couple-run, this Midtown spot serves stuffed wings and waffles at an affordable, easygoing scene.
House of Blues — Downtown
Downtown's "Gospel Brunch LIVE!" at 1204 Caroline St pairs a live gospel choir with an all-you-can-eat Southern buffet.
That's a starting map, not the whole territory — Houston's Black brunch scene is bigger than any ten spots, and it shifts weekend to weekend. Use this to find your regular, then keep exploring.
