Black Brunch in Birmingham: The Spots to Know (2026)

Verified Black-owned brunch in Birmingham — from the Fourth Avenue Historic District to Center Point day parties.

By Ayana Baldwin, Gulf & South Correspondent

Birmingham's Black brunch scene runs from the Fourth Avenue Historic District downtown out to Center Point and Hueytown. Some spots do brunch every weekend; others save it for a couple of Saturdays a month, so check before you go. Here are the ones worth knowing.

Yo' Mama's — Fourth Avenue Historic District

The only Black-owned sit-down restaurant in one of the Southeast's few surviving Black business districts. Brunch runs 9am to 1pm on the second and last Saturday of each month, and the fried chicken and waffles is the reason people line up. Southern Living named it one of Birmingham's best.

SLIDE Café — Southside

Chef Raquel's Southside spot leans into brunch and lunch with a full bar — signature cocktails, mimosas, local wine and beer. Their Brunch & Soul Sundays pair the SLIDE menu with soul food, and the chicken, egg and cheese sandwich with blackberry habanero jam has a following.

Simone's Kitchen and Cocktails — Center Point

Black woman-owned, with Southern-Creole cooking from Chef Simone and craft cocktails to match. Saturday is a full brunch day party — food, drinks and a vibe — and Sundays turn into soul food. Center Point, a little northeast of downtown.

Bell Peppers — Hueytown

Chef Anthony built the menu around low-carb and keto-friendly comfort food, so you can get waffles, bacon and grits without the crash. The breakfast pizza and sweet cream pancakes are the fan favorites. Out in Hueytown, west of the city.

Olivia's Transit Cafe — Morris Avenue

Tucked into Central Station on downtown's Morris Avenue, Olivia's covers breakfast, brunch and lunch with Southern charm. Open weekday mornings plus Saturday, it's an easy downtown stop for eggs, chicken and coffee.

Yo Chef Surf & Turf Smokehouse — West Birmingham

A seafood-and-smokehouse spot on 4th Place West known for late nights and a solid weekend brunch, mimosas included, from 11am to 3pm. Come for the surf-and-turf fusion and stay for the energy.

That's the short list — verified, Black-owned, and actually serving brunch. Hours and brunch days shift, so a quick check before you head out never hurts.
