Juneteenth Observance — WVU Holiday Closure

West Virginia University, including WVU Institute of Technology, Potomac State College, Extension offices, and WVU Research Corp., observes Juneteenth as an official state holiday following the gubernatorial proclamation recognizing June 19 as the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned of their freedom in 1865. University offices are closed and the day is marked through campus communications, library resource guides, and reflection programming organized by WVU's Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and partner student organizations. Community members are encouraged to attend regional Juneteenth events and engage with WVU Libraries' curated Juneteenth reading lists and exhibits.
