About this event
Atlanta's premier civil and human rights museum hosts a daylong Juneteenth observance that connects the legacy of emancipation to today's pursuit of justice. Inside the Center's powerful permanent exhibitions on the American Civil Rights Movement and global human rights, visitors find crafts, story sessions at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and family activities centered on the meaning of June 19, 1865. A noon performance by Giwayen Mata, Atlanta's acclaimed all-sistah African dance, percussion, and vocal ensemble, honors African and African American traditions through movement and rhythm. An evening Slice of History program (6–9 p.m.), produced with the National Women's History Museum, invites young adults into interactive learning over food, kicking off the national Civic Season running through July 4.
